Thrissur Congress Says Development Focus Earned 35 Votes in Mayoral Polls
December 26, 2025
Joseph Tajet, the Thrissur District Congress Committee president, stated that the Congress is focused on development, not controversies. He said the party’s 35 votes in the mayoral and deputy mayoral elections show strong public confidence. "The Congress has no intention of chasing controversies. Our sole objective is the development of the city," he told the media on Friday evening. Tajet added that even councillors who previously supported the Left backed the Congress candidates, proving that development politics won over disputes. To help councillors govern better, a workshop will be held on December 31 at the DCC office. Led by former KILA director P. P. Balan, it will strengthen administrative and development skills. Tajet said the Congress is committed to bringing in development and welfare projects missed over the last decade. He pointed out that Niji Justin was nominated and won as Mayor, and A. Prasad as deputy mayor, to fulfill this responsibility. Despite repeated allegations by the Left and BJP during elections, voters gave Congress control of the Corporation. "We accept this mandate in its true spirit and are fully committed to carrying out the city’s development in line with public interest," Tajet said.
