India on December 26, 2025, said it has flagged concerns to the United States about the cancellation and rescheduling of thousands of H1B visa interviews for Indian applicants. Starting mid-December, visa interviews in India were abruptly postponed by several months. The US authorities cited the need to scrutinise social media posts and online profiles as a reason. Some applicants, who had interviews scheduled last week, were informed by email that their interviews would be pushed back to as late as May 2026. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government of India has received many complaints from nationals facing problems with rescheduling. He stated, "Visa-related issues pertain to the sovereign domain of any country. We have flagged these issues and our concerns to the US side, both here in New Delhi and in Washington DC." Jaiswal noted that many Indians are stranded in India for long periods, causing "hardships" to them and their families. He added, "The government of India remains actively engaged with the U.S. side to minimise the disruptions caused to our nationals." The mass cancellation and enhanced vetting measures have resulted in significant delays for applicants to return to the US. All interview appointments from December 15 onward were affected. Most applicants were already in India but now cannot travel back to the US as they lack valid H1B visas. This has impacted their ability to resume work in the United States.
