India Faces 14 Major Tragedies in 2025 Including Terror Attack and Air Crash

India suffered 14 major tragedies in 2025, claiming many lives across the country. These included deadly stampedes, transport disasters, fires, an air crash, and a terror attack.
On January 29, at least 30 died in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, where millions gathered for a holy dip. On January 22, 12 people perished in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, after jumping from a train following false fire rumors and getting hit by another train.
On February 15, a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station killed 18 people amid crowds heading to Prayagraj. On April 1, a firecracker factory explosion in Gujarat's Banaskantha took 21 lives. The terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22 killed 26 tourists and led to Indian military strikes in Pakistan range regions during Operation Sindoor.
On May 18, a fire in Hyderabad's Gulzar Houz killed 17, including children. The Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL victory celebration on June 4 ended in tragedy with 11 deaths in a stampede. The worst air disaster struck on June 12 when Air India Flight 171 crashed near Ahmedabad, killing 241 aboard and 19 on the ground.
A four-decade-old bridge collapsed in Vadodara on July 9, killing 20 people. On September 27, a stampede during a political rally in Tamil Nadu's Karur caused 41 deaths. October 24 saw 19 passengers charred in a bus fire in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
A November 10 car blast near Delhi's Red Fort caused 13 deaths, and investigations are ongoing. A nightclub fire in Goa on December 6 killed 25 people. Finally, on December 16, a massive vehicle pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura claimed 19 lives.
Most incidents have ongoing probes involving judicial commissions, police, and central agencies, aiming to prevent future disasters.
