Cambodia Accuses Thailand of Heavy Bombing Amid Border Talks After Deadly Clashes
December 26, 2025
Cambodia has accused Thailand of stepping up bombing in the disputed border region while both countries try to talk peace. Their border fights broke out again this month, killing more than 40 people and displacing around a million.
Officials from Cambodia and Thailand met for a third day on Friday near the border to negotiate. Defence ministers from both countries are set to meet on Saturday for more talks.
However, Cambodia’s defence ministry said Thailand’s military launched a heavy attack on Friday morning in Banteay Meanchey province. “From 6.08am to 7.15am, the Thai military deployed F-16 fighter jets to drop as many as 40 bombs, to intensify its bombardment in the area of Chok Chey village,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Thai media reported that Cambodian forces heavily attacked overnight along the border in Sa Kaeo province, damaging several homes.
Both Cambodia and Thailand blame each other for starting the fresh fighting. Each says they acted in self-defence and accuses the other of targeting civilians.
The US, China, and Malaysia had brokered a truce in July after five days of fighting, but the ceasefire lasted only briefly.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Friday he spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about ways to secure a ceasefire along the border.
This conflict is about a territorial dispute over an 800km colonial-era border and temple ruins located there.
