Four men connected to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal were arrested on December 25 for vandalising Christmas decorations in Assam's Nalbari district. The incident occurred on December 24 at St Mary’s School in Panigaon village. The accused entered the school unlawfully, burnt, and damaged decorative items for Christmas celebrations. A senior police official confirmed, "Miscreants who vandalised the school have been arrested. They entered the premises unlawfully." The vandals damaged outer decorations, lights, plant pots, and set some items on fire, causing property loss. A case was registered at Belsor police station. Authorities are still investigating and trying to identify more people involved. The arrested include VHP Nalbari district secretary Bhaskar Deka, VHP district vice-president Manash Jyoti Patgiri, assistant secretary Biju Dutta, and Bajrang Dal's district convenor Nayan Talukdar. They shouted "Jai Shree Ram" slogans and warned the school against celebrating Christmas on its premises. The accused also targeted shops in Nalbari town selling Christmas goods. Near Jain Mandir, they set fire to some items and burnt goods in several malls and business establishments.
