Delhi Air Quality Improves to ‘Poor’ with AQI 234 Amid Ongoing Pollution from Vehicles and NCR

Delhi's air quality improved slightly for the second day in a row on Thursday, December 24, 2025. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 234 by 4 p.m., placing it in the 'poor' category. This is better than the 'severe' level of 412 recorded on Tuesday. Out of 40 monitoring stations, 10 showed moderate AQI below 200, including Lodhi Road and IGI Airport. However, 27 stations remained in the poor category, and two stations, Jahangirpuri and Bawana, recorded very poor levels above 300. The Decision Support System for Air Quality Management found that vehicular emissions led pollution on Wednesday, contributing 18.5%, followed by industries at 9.5%, construction at 2.5%, and waste burning at 1.6%. Among nearby districts in the National Capital Region, Jhajjar contributed the most pollution at 17.6%, then Rohtak at 5.9%, and Sonipat at 3.1%. Winds from the northwest blew at up to 10 km/h in the afternoon. The Air Quality Early Warning System predicts air quality will worsen to the very poor category soon. On the weather side, Delhi recorded a high of 22.6°C on Wednesday, a bit warmer than usual, and a low of 6.5°C. The India Meteorological Department expects a minimum temperature of 8°C on Friday, with moderate fog. The relative humidity was 63% in the morning and 84% in the evening.
