Police in Melbourne are investigating after a parked car with a 'Happy Chanukah' sign was set on fire early Thursday. The car caught fire while parked in a driveway in St Kilda East. Victoria Police called it a "suspicious fire." The house occupants were evacuated safely, with no injuries reported. Photos showed the car badly burnt. Police are searching for a person who may help with the investigation. The statement said, "Detectives have identified a person who may be able to assist with their investigation and they are actively searching for and making enquiries into their whereabouts." Rabbi Effy Block of the Chabad of St Kilda called the incident "clearly antisemitic." He told AFP, "Thank God no people were harmed." He added, "But this is a continuing escalation, where we see these events happening again and again. My Jewish community in St Kilda and Melbourne do not feel safe in their own homes and country." This attack comes as hate crimes rise in Australia. Authorities are tightening laws after a deadly shooting at a Hanukkah festival in Sydney on December 14, which killed 15 people.
