Vishva Hindu Parishad Bajrang Dal (VHPBD) activists vandalised Christmas celebrations and damaged festival items in Nalbari district, Assam, police said. On December 25, 2025, some group members protested Christmas celebrations in Nalbari town. They entered St Mary's School in Panigaon village and destroyed Christmas Day programme preparations. They burnt banners and posters. The activists shouted 'Jai Shree Ram' slogans and warned the school not to host Christmas on its premises. After the school, the activists went to various shops near the Jain Mandir in Nalbari town. They set fire to Christmas goods displayed outside the shops. The group also entered shopping malls and other business places selling Christmas items and burnt those goods. Bhaskar Deka, VHPBD Nalbari District Secretary, told reporters, "We don't want Christian festivals here. Trade in any festival-related items of Indian origin. But we do not accept doing business with a festival of non-Indian origin." A police official said no FIR has been registered as no complaint has been made so far.
