Navi Mumbai International Airport put on a stunning drone show on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, with 1,515 drones lighting up the sky. The Adani Group-promoted airport will begin commercial operations the very next day, December 25. The drones moved in smooth harmony to form beautiful shapes such as 3D lotus blooms, the airport logo, a plane flying over Mumbai, and the rise of India, all focused on the airport’s theme, NMIA said in a statement. The event blended technology and art, turning the night sky into a dazzling display. NMIA is the second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan region after the Mumbai International Airport. It covers 1,160 hectares (2,866 acres) and, once fully complete, will be among India's busiest aviation hubs. The airport will have two parallel runways, modern terminal buildings, and advanced cargo facilities. Upon full operation, it is designed to handle 90 million passengers per year. In its first phase, NMIA can serve 20 million passengers annually and handle 0.5 million metric tonnes of cargo. The opening marks a major step for aviation in the region.
