J&K Police Boosts Security in Kashmir Valley for Safe Christmas and New Year Celebrations
December 24, 2025
On December 24, 2025, J&K Police increased security across Kashmir Valley. The focus is on tourist places due to upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations. V. K. Birdi, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, stated the goal is “to maintain a high level of alertness”. He led a security review meeting in Srinagar to prepare for peaceful events.
IGP Birdi ordered that all preparations be completed early. Checkpoints, especially at night, must be strengthened. Vigilance should be high at vulnerable spots. He said, “All preparations should be completed in advance and officers should strengthen checkpoints, especially at night and maintain heightened vigilance at vulnerable locations across the Valley.”
With more tourists expected, the IGP called for multi-layered security at key areas. These include cable car terminals, forest tracks, busy tourist spots, and major routes. He pushed for better patrolling, real-time intelligence sharing, and nonstop surveillance.
Birdi also directed officers to be ready for any weather challenges while ensuring continuous security and public help. Security of highways, railway tracks, and stations was also reviewed.
A police spokesman said the meeting ended with a firm promise to keep high alertness, improve teamwork, and follow security plans strictly. This will help make all events peaceful and well-organised.
