Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Football’s First Billionaire with Record Saudi Deal
December 24, 2025
Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract extension with Saudi club Al-Nassr has turned him into football’s first billionaire. The Portuguese star’s deal extends until 2027 and features a base salary of £178 million a year (about $240 million), all tax-free. This makes it one of the richest contracts in sports history.
But Ronaldo’s deal is more than just a salary. It includes performance bonuses, such as £80,000 for each goal and £40,000 for each assist, both increasing in the second year. He also earns approximately £8 million if Al-Nassr wins the Saudi Pro League and £4 million if he wins the Golden Boot as the league’s top scorer.
Apart from pay, Ronaldo enjoys luxury perks like private jet travel paid by the club and 16 full-time personal staff including chefs, drivers, and security. He and his partner recently purchased luxury villas on a private Red Sea island.
A unique feature of his deal is a 15% ownership stake in Al-Nassr, making him a part-owner. This ties his success on the field with the club’s growth off the field.
Ronaldo’s contract also includes tens of millions in sponsorship deals, leveraging his global brand to attract commercial partners in Saudi Arabia and Asia.
At 40 years old, Ronaldo continues to break records and redefine athlete contracts worldwide. His Saudi deal is a mix of massive wages, performance rewards, luxury lifestyle, equity, and business opportunities. It shows how top athletes can negotiate not just for money but for long-term influence and legacy.
