Blast in Southern Moscow Kills Three, Including Two Police Officers
December 24, 2025
An explosion in southern Moscow on Wednesday killed three people, including two police officers, Russian authorities said. The blast occurred as the officers approached a "suspicious individual," according to spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko. The two officers and another person nearby later died from their injuries, reported AP.
"Investigators and forensic experts are working at the scene," Petrenko said. She did not reveal more details about the device or suspect.
This incident happened in the same area where Lt General Fanil Sarvarov, a top Russian military official, was killed on Monday by a bomb under his car. Authorities have hinted Ukraine might be behind that attack. Sarvarov's death was the third high-ranking military assassination in just over a year.
No official connection has been made between Wednesday's blast and the earlier car bomb. Investigators have not commented on whether the two incidents are linked.
The recent explosions raise serious security concerns in Moscow following multiple targeted attacks using explosives.
