Tech Educator Kunal Kushwaha Opens Up on Indian Passport Travel Hurdles and Visa Frustrations
December 24, 2025
Kunal Kushwaha, an Indian-origin tech educator and developer advocate, shared his struggles with visa rules that come with holding an Indian passport. In a viral post on X, he described how visa paperwork often disrupts his travel plans. After a recent trip to Berlin, Kushwaha could not visit Ireland to surprise his best friend on his birthday because there was not enough time to apply for another visa. What should have been a simple flight booking turned into hours spent on visa websites.
In his post, Kushwaha also painted a picture of standing in long airport queues while other travelers moved quickly. He carries folders of documents he has submitted many times before. Schengen visa applications, he said, feel like a full-time job, needing bank statements, cover letters, and detailed trip explanations.
"I’m not angry. I’m tired," he wrote. Kushwaha explained his frustration is practical, not emotional. National pride doesn’t reduce the mental effort needed to handle constant paperwork.
He pointed out that India ranks low on global mobility indexes and offers visa-free access to few countries. These rankings create real limits for professionals who travel for work, conferences, and teamwork.
Many responses to his post shared similar stories of delayed appointments, short visa validity, and uncertainty even among frequent international travelers with strong careers. Kushwaha also mentioned other issues like the rupee’s decline affecting his investments in India, air pollution, and old banking and KYC processes adding to daily hassles.
