Judicial Probe Records Statements of 22 Security Officials in Leh Violence Case
December 24, 2025
At least 22 security officials, including members of the Ladakh Police and the CRPF, have given statements before a Judicial Commission headed by Justice Dr. B.S. Chauhan. The Commission was set up to investigate the violence and deaths of four civilians on September 24, 2025, in Leh, Ladakh.
Justice Chauhan, a former Supreme Court judge, led proceedings from December 17 to 23, recording testimonies from CRPF personnel, magistrates, and Ladakh Police officials. Rigzin Spalgon, Joint Secretary to the Judicial Inquiry Commission, said the next sessions will invite the public to give their statements.
"The dates for recording statements of individuals who have already submitted their affidavits will be announced in due course," Spalgon said.
The Commission has already reviewed all written statements submitted earlier. From December 19 onwards, officials began recording oral statements. People who gave written accounts appeared in person to speak before Justice Chauhan.
Officials on duty during the incident will be summoned to testify. The inquiry aims to clearly understand the events, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The unrest on September 24 left four civilians dead and around 90 injured. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested following violence on September 26. Leh faced multiple curfews and internet shutdowns for the first time.
The Department of Law and Justice in Leh issued the notification for this judicial inquiry into the events of September 24 in Leh town.
