Tiger Killed by Vehicle on NH 565 in Markapur Forest Area

An adult tiger was found dead on National Highway (NH) 565 near the Sirigiripadu section in the V.P. South Forest Range, Markapur division, on Tuesday morning. Officials said the tiger was killed by an unidentified vehicle. Sirigiripadu Forest Section Officer P. Mahesh Babu was informed first and arrived at the spot to secure the carcass. He then contacted the V.P. South Forest Range Officer and Markapur Project Tiger Deputy Director. They inspected the site along with veterinary doctors. Following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a post-mortem confirmed the tiger died from a vehicle hit. The tiger's body was incinerated following NTCA guidelines. "A case has been registered under Wildlife Protection Act (WLPA) and the investigation is on," said Mohammad Abdul Rawoof Shaik, Deputy Director of Markapur Project Tiger. The probe continues to identify the vehicle responsible for this tragic loss.
