₹6.89 Lakh Scholarships Awarded to Visually Challenged Students at Andhra Loyola College

Chennai-based Help the Blind Foundation (HTBF) joined hands with the Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (HEPSN) Wing of Andhra Loyola College (ALC) to give scholarships to visually challenged students. G. Sahaya Baskaran, HEPSN coordinator at ALC, said ₹6.89 lakh was distributed to 38 students from Andhra Loyola College and other local colleges for the academic year 2025-26. Out of the 38 students, 18 were from ALC, 12 from A.C. College, Guntur, five from Hindu College, Guntur, two from S.R.R. and C.V.R. Government College, and one from Maris Stella College. Each day scholar received ₹12,000, while ALC hostel students got ₹30,000. This year, HTBF also extended scholarships to Intermediate students. M.A. Kumar Raja, Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Differently Abled and Senior Citizens Assistance Corporation, praised HTBF's 14 years of service. He urged students to use laptops and assistive technology given to them to build skills and live independently. The programme was led by ALC principal S. Melchior and attended by ALC correspondent A. Rex Angelo. On the same day, the Department of Agriculture at ALC marked National Farmers Day on December 23, 2025. Experts Arepalli Rambabu and Veeranjaneyulu highlighted the key role of farmers and stressed organic farming and sustainable methods. They called for farmers and students to adopt eco-friendly agriculture for long-term food security and well-being. Additionally, Andhra Loyola College announced the upcoming "ALCEXPO2K26 - Initiative for Innovations," a two-day exhibition set for January 6 and 7, 2026. It will showcase arts, sciences, humanities, and management through live models, labs, AI demos, career counselling, and more. Event coordinator Sri Kumar released a brochure on December 23. Several college officials including IQAC coordinator Sai Ram Prasad and vice-principals Srinivasa Reddy, Siva Kumari, and Satish were present.
