Ankit Dewan, a passenger at Delhi airport, said he was physically assaulted by off-duty Air India Express captain Virender Sejwal near Terminal 1's security area on December 19. A CT scan confirmed a displaced fracture of his left nasal bone. Dewan said, "I am right now focusing on my health, and a CT scan today showed a displaced fracture of the left nasal bone. I hope I get justice in the matter." He has submitted a written complaint to Delhi Police. Delhi Police confirmed that a case was registered on December 22 under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The police added, "Based on Mr. Dewan's complaint received via email, a case has been registered. An investigation is underway." Initially, the police said no formal complaint was received but action began after Dewan's post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Dewan stated the fight started when he objected to staff allegedly cutting the security line. He accused the pilot of verbal abuse followed by physical attack, which caused bleeding and traumatized his seven-year-old daughter who witnessed the incident. Air India Express issued a statement saying it was aware of the incident involving an employee traveling as a passenger on another airline. The airline has removed Captain Sejwal from official duties immediately pending an internal probe. Police will investigate with evidence including CCTV footage from the terminal to confirm facts. The case is ongoing and updates are awaited.
