At least five people died when a Mexican Navy plane crashed near Galveston, Texas, on Monday. The plane was flying a child burns victim for medical care. It went down in foggy weather around 15:01 local time over Galveston Bay, near Scholes International Airport. The flight was part of a mission by the Michou y Mau Foundation, which helps Mexican children with severe burns. Mexico's Secretariat of the Navy said one person is still missing, and two survivors have been rescued. Video showed the plane wreck underwater as police and witnesses searched through the debris. Yacht captain Sky Decker helped rescue a trapped woman. He said, "I couldn't believe. She had maybe three inches of air gap to breathe in. And there was jet fuel in there mixed with the water, fumes real bad. She was really fighting for her life." Search and rescue efforts are ongoing with help from the US Coast Guard. Rescuers, including dive teams, worked in dense fog near Scholes International Airport. On X, the Michou y Mau Foundation shared, "our deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy."
