UAE Winter Begins with Cold Nights, Mild Days, and Rainfall from December 22
December 23, 2025
Winter officially began in the UAE on December 22. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) says this season will have cold nights, mild daytime temperatures, and occasional rainfall across the country. Winter here is shaped by the Siberian high-pressure system pushing cold air through northwesterly or northeast winds. These winds cause noticeable temperature drops, especially at night and early mornings. Some inland and mountain areas may see temperatures fall below 0°C.
The UAE also sees low-pressure systems from the Red Sea, Mediterranean, and sometimes the east. These bring more clouds and rain. Calm, humid early mornings can cause fog.
Winter weather varies by region:
- Deserts: Cool during nights and mornings, mild daytime.
- Mountains: Places like Jebel Jais stay mostly cold. The lowest temperature recorded this season was 3.5°C at Jebel Jais on December 20.
- Coastal areas: Temperatures are moderate, seas calm with waves of 1 to 2 feet, good for marine activities. Heavy rains may occasionally cause water runoff in valleys, so authorities warn locals to be careful.
Before winter began officially, strong winds on December 18 and 19 brought heavy rain, flooding, and hail in some areas. Dubai Police received over 39,000 calls during the storms. Emergency alerts and SMS messages warned residents and tourists to stay alert.
Typical winter weather averages in the UAE are maximum temperatures of 24–27°C, minimum 14–16°C, humidity between 55 and 64 percent, and winds of 11 to 13 km/h. Light to moderate winds, comfortable humidity, and occasional fog create great conditions for outdoor sports, camping, and exploring the country's varied landscapes.
