The nomination process began on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, for elections in 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra. Candidates can file nominations until December 30. The State Election Commission announced that these long-awaited elections will take place on January 15, 2026, with results declared the next day. Candidates can withdraw nominations until January 2. Political parties have yet to finalize their seat-sharing plans. In the ruling Mahayuti alliance, Shiv Sena and BJP agreed to contest together but are still deciding on seat distribution. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) may compete against BJP in Pune Municipal Corporation. For the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), NCP has not yet decided whether to contest alone. BJP Mumbai president Ameet Satam and Shiv Sena leader Uday Samant said 150 BMC seats are settled, while 77 seats remain undecided. On the opposition side, alliance talks are close to completion between MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT). Meanwhile, Congress is seeking to ally with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said, "In two days my party and MNS will announce the political alliance for corporation elections."
