December 23, 2025
A Mexican navy aircraft crashed into Galveston Bay in Texas on Monday afternoon, killing at least five people including a two-year-old child, US Coast Guard officials reported. Four people were rescued alive, while one person remains missing, said a Coast Guard spokesperson. Among those on board were members of the Michou and Mau Foundation, a nonprofit aiding Mexican children with severe burns. Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen confirmed the plane was transporting burn patients. The Mexican navy said eight people were on board—four naval crew members and four civilians. Emergency teams, including divers and drone units, were deployed immediately after the crash, which was first reported at 3:17 pm local time. The Texas Department of Safety, FAA, and NTSB are assisting in the investigation. The Mexican navy said, “Search and rescue protocols were immediately activated in coordination with local authorities.” They are also working with the Mexican Consulate in Houston to manage the situation.
