BJP Donations Soar to ₹6,088 Crore in 2024-25, Congress Sees Sharp Fall

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saw its donations jump to ₹6,088 crore in 2024-25, up from ₹3,967 crore in 2023-24, according to reports filed with the Election Commission. This huge rise makes BJP's funding nearly 12 times more than the Congress, which received ₹522.13 crore, down from ₹1,129.66 crore.
Electoral trusts contributed significantly to BJP's funds, with ₹3,142.65 crore coming from these sources. Prudent Electoral Trust was the biggest donor, donating ₹2,668 crore to 15 political parties last year. Donations also came from individuals, companies, and institutions.
Other parties that saw a fall in donations include the Trinamool Congress (₹184.08 crore from ₹646.39 crore), YSR Congress (₹140.05 crore from ₹184.11 crore), BJD (₹60 crore from ₹245.5 crore), TDP (₹85.20 crore from ₹274.65 crore), and BRS. Meanwhile, parties like JD(U), Samajwadi Party, and CPI(ML)L experienced an increase.
The Congress spent ₹1,111.94 crore in total, with ₹896.22 crore spent on elections. Trinamool Congress spent ₹227.59 crore, including ₹137.58 crore on elections. YSR Congress's election expenditure was ₹299.92 crore. CPI(ML)L increased donations from ₹94.63 lakh to ₹2.98 crore and spent ₹1.69 crore on elections. JD(U) donations rose to ₹18.69 crore from ₹4.35 crore, while Samajwadi Party’s donations nearly doubled to ₹94.47 lakh.
While BJP has submitted its Contribution Report, its audit report is still awaited on the Election Commission website.
