Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Prototype Train Moves To Kothanur Depot For Testing
December 22, 2025
The six-coach prototype train for Bengaluru Metro’s Pink Line was moved overnight from BEML Rail Complex at New Thippasandra to Kothanur depot. The nearly 20 km transit took place at night, as heavy trailer movement is allowed only after hours in the city. The train, built by BEML Ltd., was dismantled and transported in parts on trailers, then reassembled at the depot.
Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that after reassembly, the train will undergo inspection bay checks and mainline trials to test its safety and performance. An official said, "The entire exercise was conducted at night to comply with traffic regulations. After reassembly at the depot, the train will undergo a detailed inspection and testing process."
The driverless metro train prototype was unveiled by BEML on December 11, 2025, and is designed for Namma Metro’s Phase-2 corridors, including 2A and 2B. The Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara in south Bengaluru with Nagawara in the north, promising better city connectivity.
Once preliminary checks finish, BMRCL will seek statutory clearances from the Ministry of Railways, Research Designs and Standards Organisation, and Metro Railway Safety Commissioner. The rolling stock will face a series of tests before it opens for passengers.
The Pink Line is set to be commissioned in two phases by the end of 2026, enhancing Bengaluru’s north-south travel options.
