Bengaluru Police Joins Hands with Uber and Ola to Boost Safety with Real-Time Emergency Alerts
December 22, 2025
Bengaluru city police on December 22, 2025 announced a new safety initiative with Uber and Ola. The ride-hailing apps will now directly share real-time location and trip details with Bengaluru Police during emergencies. Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “The new integration allows emergency call facilities to be accessed directly from the Uber and Ola mobile applications used for booking rides. Through this feature, riders and drivers seeking emergency assistance can share real-time location data, trip details, and contact information with the Bengaluru City Police’s 112 emergency response infrastructure from within the app itself.” This new system helps the police get critical information quickly, enabling faster intervention and saving precious time. Uber added that riders and drivers can activate the safety toolkit by tapping the blue shield icon on the app during a trip. Choosing ‘112’ will send live location updates every four seconds along with user details automatically to the police control room. The Uber spokesperson said, “Once activated, the system shares live location updates every four seconds along with the user’s name, contact number, driver and vehicle details, and email address, if available.” Users can opt out of sharing location, but then the SOS signal won’t be sent though they can still call 112. In November 2025, Mr. Singh revealed that cab and autorickshaw apps must integrate their SOS feeds with the city police command centre to speed emergency responses. The police also mandated stickers with the helpline number 112 and QR codes linking to the Karnataka State Police app inside ride vehicles. This technology partnership marks a big step towards safer urban travel in Bengaluru.
