BSF Soldier Abducted by Bangladeshi Cattle Smugglers Returns Safely After Tense Border Talks

A BSF soldier posted in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district was briefly abducted by Bangladeshi cattle smugglers. On Sunday morning, December 21, Ved Prakash of the 174th battalion inadvertently crossed into Bangladesh while chasing smugglers in dense fog. "Ved Prakash of the 174th battalion was abducted by Bangladeshi cattle smugglers as he inadvertently crossed the border while chasing them amid dense fog," a BSF official said. The BSF quickly raised the issue with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). "Following the incident, the matter was taken up with the BGB," the official added. After talks between BSF and BGB officers, Ved Prakash returned to his camp unharmed that evening. "After meetings between BSF and BGB officers, Mr. Prakash returned to his camp unharmed in the evening," the official said. The incident happened near Mekhliganj in Cooch Behar. It highlights ongoing challenges at the India-Bangladesh border involving cattle smuggling and security personnel safety. The soldier's safe return came after swift diplomatic coordination was done to resolve the tense situation.
