Superintendent of Police A. Mayilvaganan flagged off a free marathon at the old bus terminus, opposite the Fort complex in Vellore, on Sunday. The 7-km event was part of the ‘Run Against Drugs’ campaign. It was organised by Sripuram Sri Narayani Peedam and Sri Narayani Schools. Around 1,500 volunteers took part. This included students, teachers, social activists, green club members, and police personnel. The participants, led by Mr. Mayilvaganan, took a pledge against drugs and other banned substances. The run ended at Netaji Stadium, behind the Vellore Fort complex. Vellore Mayor Sujatha Anandakumar gave prizes and certificates to the winners. This was done in the presence of N. Balaji, director of Sri Narayani Hospital & Research Centre (SNHRC), according to the press release.
