The West Bengal Police on Saturday, December 20, 2025, condemned efforts to compare the recent murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh with the lynching of a father-son duo in Murshidabad in April. In a social media post, the police said, "Malicious efforts are being made from certain quarters to draw parallels between the recent murder of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh and the tragic death of the father-son duo of Haragobindo and Chandan Das in Murshidabad about 8 months back." The police described such comparisons as "highly inciteful, factually misleading, and intended to disturb public order." They added that "13 accused persons were promptly arrested in the Murshidabad case, and a strong chargesheet was filed. Judgment of the case is expected very soon." This statement came after several BJP leaders referenced the communal clashes in Murshidabad following the Bangladesh incident. The police responded, "Drawing parallels with the events in Bangladesh is nothing but a disingenuous attempt to spread communal mistrust where the law is already taking its course." Authorities confirmed they are monitoring social media accounts spreading provocative misinformation and that legal action will be taken against those trying to communalise criminal incidents.
