A special cultural event called ‘Nagara Natya Sankeertana’ took place on Beach Road, Visakhapatnam, on Sunday morning. More than 200 classical dancers, musicians, and devotees came together in a lively devotional procession. The event was organised by the Nataraj Music and Dance Academy with ‘The Dance India Magazine’. The rally began at Ramakrishna Beach Kalimatha Temple and moved along the beachfront to the Annamacharya Statue. Participants performed soulful sankeertanas and traditional dances on the way. Dancers in Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, and Andhra Natyam danced alongside senior teachers. They paid tribute to great saint-poets and celebrated India's rich classical arts heritage. People and rasikas watching along the route gave wide support and appreciation. This event is a warm-up for the International Traditional Dance Congress (ITDC-2026), set for January 2 to 4, 2026, at Kalabharathi AC Auditorium in Visakhapatnam. ITDC-2026 aims to protect and spread Indian classical dance and music, focusing on devotional songs by saint-poets. It will include performances, seminars, and workshops. Vikram Kumar B.R., founding chairman of ITDC, said, “‘Nagara Natya Sankeertana’ was conceived as a spiritual and artistic expression for ITDC-2026.” After the rally, participating children received certificates signed by Padma Shri awardees, honoring their dedication to classical arts. The organisers thanked local cultural groups, dance schools, parents, and art lovers for their strong support. They invited everyone to join to make ITDC-2026 a memorable, uplifting festival of culture and spirit for the city.
