The Beta Vembanad Forum presented nine projects aimed at restoring Vembanad Lake, Kerala's largest wetland. Experts shared these ideas at the forum held by the Alappuzha district administration on Saturday. The plans include making useful products from water hyacinth, setting up on-site sanitation systems, and monitoring water quality with schools. Other projects focus on improving fish farming with nursery pen technology, building bio-bunds, installing sluice gates, and using nature-based filters to remove pesticides. There is also a plan for a centralised cleaning and sanitation setup to cut plastic use in the houseboat sector. The forum included national and international experts. It aimed to showcase the restoration work that the Alappuzha district has led for 18 months. The goal is to attract CSR funds and support from financial institutions across India and abroad. Archana Varma, Additional Secretary at the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti and Director of the National Water Mission, inaugurated the event online. District Collector Alex Varghese gave the opening address, while Rohith Joseph of TAGS Forum explained the projects in detail. Organisers said the forum is important for funding the full restoration of the Vembanad wetland. They plan to start the next phase of work soon.
