Abhay Manohar Sapre, retired Supreme Court judge and chairperson of the Road Safety Advisory Committee, inspected road safety on National Highway 275 connecting Bengaluru and Mysuru on December 20. He was joined by senior officials including Mandya Deputy Commissioner Kumar. Mr. Sapre reviewed current safety measures and discussed more steps to prevent severe accidents on NH 275. He appreciated the drop in road accidents in 2025 after installing AI-enabled cameras. However, he directed officials to ensure regular technical updates for these AI cameras and other devices to keep them working smoothly. He also recommended safety upgrades in areas with frequent accidents. Mr. Sapre emphasized installing digital speed control systems to tackle over-speeding. He suggested putting up clear and visible signboards at accident-prone locations. Additionally, he stressed strict lane discipline and preventing speeding. Officials present included A.M. Yogeesh, transport commissioner Bengaluru; Mallikarjun Baladandi and Thimmaiah, police superintendents of Mandya district; and M.S. Obale, project director of the National Highways Authority of India, Ramanagara. The inspection aims to improve safety and reduce accidents on this busy highway linking two major cities.
