Tamil Nadu Police Warn Against New Courier Call Forwarding Scam Stealing Bank and Social Accounts
December 20, 2025
The Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police has issued a warning about a new fraud scam. Criminals impersonate courier or delivery agents to target people. They call victims claiming to confirm or reschedule parcel delivery. During the call, they ask the person to dial a USSD code, usually starting with *21* and followed by the fraudster's phone number. Dialing this code turns on call forwarding on the victim’s phone without their knowledge. Now, all incoming calls go to the criminal instead, including bank verification calls, OTPs, and authentication calls from apps like WhatsApp or Telegram. This allows fraudsters to make illegal financial transactions and take control of social media accounts. Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing, Sandeep Mittal, has warned everyone to stay alert. He said, "Please be careful and share this advisory with your family, friends, and colleagues." The police released this advisory on December 20, 2025, at 03:20 pm IST.
