Three people died and three others were injured after being hit by a train on Saturday, December 20, 2025. This happened near Taherpur in Nadia district, West Bengal, as they were travelling to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally. The accident took place between Taherpur and Badkulla railway stations on the Sealdah-Krishnanagar railway line of Eastern Railway. The victims were BJP workers. Mr. Modi’s helicopter could not land at Taherpur due to dense fog and poor visibility. He offered his condolences in a virtual message from Kolkata airport. "I have come to know that some BJP workers, while travelling to the rally, lost their lives in a rail accident. My condolences are with the families of those who have lost their loved ones, and I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Mr. Modi said. According to an Eastern Railway official, the incident happened in the morning when the group was travelling by bus. They stopped and got off the bus to answer nature’s call near the railway tracks. Because of heavy fog, they could not see the oncoming train. Three people died on the spot. Two injured were rushed to a local hospital. Another person with minor injuries received first aid and was discharged. The railway line remains vital and the accident shocked locals and party workers alike.
