BWSSB Uses Robots to Fix Sewers Without Digging, Saves Lakhs and Eases Public Trouble
December 16, 2025
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has started using robotic inspection technology to check sewers and underground utilities. Since November 12, this new method avoided digging at 38 locations, saving several lakhs in repair costs. Engineers reported 75 service requests and solved 67. Robots found 93 problems like blockages and structural damage that would have needed trial-and-error digging before. This technology reduces costs and public inconvenience. It stops long road closures, traffic jams, dust, noise, and limited access caused by traditional repair work. It also improves worker safety by reducing manual work in tight underground spaces. BWSSB Chairman V. Ram Prasath Manohar said they plan to expand robotic inspections in more zones. This will speed up repairs, reduce costs, and cause less trouble for people.
