FBI Stops New Year's Eve Bomb Plot by Far-Left Group in California
December 16, 2025
The FBI stopped a New Year's Eve terror plot in California. Four people linked to a far-left pro-Palestinian group called the Turtle Island Liberation Front were arrested. Officials said the group planned bomb attacks at five locations near Los Angeles. The suspects were caught last week while testing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) east of the city.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X that authorities prevented "far-left" extremists from carrying out "a massive and horrific terror plot." The four suspects are Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Tina Lai, 41. They face charges including conspiracy and possession of an unregistered destructive device in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
Officials revealed the group travelled to the desert on December 12 with "precursor chemicals" to build bombs. A surveillance plane tracked their movements. FBI agents and the Los Angeles SWAT team arrested them without any trouble.
The plot targeted two logistics centres at midnight on New Year's Eve. The group also planned attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and vehicles in January or February. One suspect, Carroll, said: "That would take some of them out and scare the rest of them."
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell praised the teamwork that stopped the attack. He said, "The successful disruption of this plot is a powerful testament to the strength of our unified response." He added that working together with other agencies "prevented a potential tragedy and reaffirmed our shared commitment to safeguarding our communities."
The FBI continues to investigate to find any other suspects linked to the plot.
