On December 15, 2025, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) charged seven people in the Pahalgam terror attack case at a Jammu court. This includes Sajid Jatt, a Pakistani terrorist and handler linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF). The NIA traced the conspiracy back to Pakistan. "Through a meticulous scientific probe spanning the past almost eight months, it had traced the conspiracy in the case to Pakistan, which has been unabatedly sponsoring terrorism against India," said an NIA spokesperson. The accused have been charged for "waging war against India" under Indian law. The 1,597-page charge sheet also names three Pakistani terrorists killed by Indian forces in Operation Mahadev in July 2025. They are Faisal Jatt (alias Suleman Shah), Habeeb Tahir (alias Jibran), and Hamza Afghani. Sajid Jatt, originally named Habibullah Malik, hails from Kasur district in Pakistan’s Punjab and uses several aliases including Saifullah and Ali Sajid. The charge sheet provides detailed evidence of the conspiracy and Pakistan’s role. The NIA said, "With supporting evidence in the case, [the NIA] has charged the banned LeT/TRF as a legal entity for its role in planning, facilitating, and executing the Pahalgam attack." This deadly attack killed 25 tourists and one local civilian. The accused have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Two locals, Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Jothad, arrested on June 22, 2025, for sheltering terrorists, have also been charged. They identified the Pakistani terrorists during interrogation. This move highlights India's strong stance against terrorism funding and cross-border terror activities.
