South Western Railway (SWR) is improving Bengaluru railway stations with new passenger-friendly features. They have introduced air-conditioned waiting areas and more food and beverage options, including popular global brands. On Monday, ride-hailing service Rapido started a special booking kiosk at Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) Bengaluru station at Majestic. Another aggregator, Namma Yatri, will open a similar kiosk soon. Both will pay ₹53 lakh annually to run kiosks across six city stations. Railway officials told The Hindu that these kiosks will help passengers, especially those who do not use apps or have poor internet, book autos and cabs easily. One official said, "Passengers can directly approach these kiosks to book autos or cabs, making the process more convenient and organised. At the same time, it helps Railways generate a steady stream of non-fare revenue." Rapido said the kiosks will reduce waiting times and simplify last-mile travel at busy stations. A Rapido spokesperson said, "The dedicated passenger booking kiosks at KSR station are designed to simplify last-mile connectivity at one of the city’s busiest transit hubs. These booths help passengers discover rides faster, get fare clarity, and connect seamlessly with nearby captains, reducing friction and wait times." They added, "By combining physical infrastructure with our tech-first platform and operational innovation, we aim to improve safety, trust, and overall passenger experience." Encouraged by the response, SWR plans to add kiosks at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal, Yeshwantpur, Hoodi, Krishnarajapuram, and Whitefield stations. Besides mobility services, the Bengaluru division plans to upgrade food and retail options at major stations. An official said talks are ongoing with leading catering providers and global restaurant chains to improve passenger comfort and increase non-fare revenue for Railways.
