Goa Fire Inquiry Questions Landowner, Village Head; Clubs Sealed After Nightclub Blaze
December 14, 2025
A magisterial inquiry committee questioned original landowner Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar and Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch Roshan Redkar about the deadly fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa. The fire on December 6 took 25 lives.
Mr. Amonkar was summoned on December 13 at 3:30 p.m. and was questioned until 10:30 p.m., said his lawyer Prasenjeet Dhage. The inquiry aimed to find out “why this incident happened.” Mr. Dhage called the session “very intensive and vigorous.”
Roshan Redkar said he answered the committee’s questions. He has pre-arrest bail. Goa police have already arrested five club managers and staff members.
The club’s co-owners, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, fled the country and have been detained in Thailand.
Following the tragedy, Goa authorities intensified inspections. They sealed Cafe CO2 Goa, a popular club atop Ozrant Cliff in Vagator, for lacking a Fire and Emergency Services Department no-objection certificate (NOC) and structural stability issues.
The fire department also revoked the NOC for Diaz Pool Club and Bar at Anjuna after finding insufficient fire extinguishers. A notice was served to partner Nitin Wadhwa.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal claimed on December 13 that the night club fire happened because the BJP government in Goa was corrupt.
The state government’s inquiry committee is headed by district magistrate Ankit Yadav and continues to investigate the incident.
