As Andhra Pradesh enters December's second week, the chill has set in across many areas, not just in the northern parts but also in Rayalaseema. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, predicts the cold wave will continue across the State from December 12 to 25. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain below normal in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. However, daytime temperatures might be above normal in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh during this period. On Friday, among 21 automatic weather stations (AWS) operated by IMD in Andhra Pradesh, Jangamaheswarapuram recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 13°C, which is 4.3 degrees below normal. Nandigama and Anantapur followed with minimum temperatures at 13.8°C. Although IMD does not have a weather station at Lambasingi, the Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society reported even colder readings in other regions. Dalapathiguda in Araku Valley, Alluri Sitharama Raju district, recorded a low of 3.3°C in the 24-hour period ending 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Dambriguda, in the same district, recorded 4.1°C. Several places in Chittoor, Kurnool, Tirupati, and Prakasam districts also recorded minimum temperatures under 13°C during the 24-hour period starting 8:30 a.m. Friday. Vijayawada saw a minimum temperature of 17.7°C, while Nunna on its outskirts recorded a cooler 14.8°C. Visakhapatnam's minimum temperature ranged between 14°C and 17°C, confirming the cold spell in the coastal zone. The residents of Andhra Pradesh are bracing for continued winter chills in the days ahead.
