The Mines & Geology Department has issued a notice to ACC Ltd., part of the Adani Group, questioning limestone leases it got for 2019-24. The department claims these leases break Central government rules. ACC Ltd. must reply within two weeks. Similar notices are set for Bharathi Cement Corporation Limited (BCCL) and Ramco Cements Limited. The leases are under fresh review after the Ministry of Mines objected to them being granted via application, not auction. The law requires leasing through auctions as per the 2021 Mines and Minerals Amendment Act. ACC Ltd. and BCCL have leases in Kadapa district; Ramco Cements holds leases in the NTR district. The State government will decide what to do next based on the companies' explanations.
