A. Ramanaidu, a CPI State Executive Committee member, called on the public and political groups to strongly oppose any attempts to amend the Constitution in the name of religion. He said such moves threaten India’s democratic and secular foundations. Speaking at a training programme for district-level cadres in Chittoor, Mr. Ramanaidu stressed that Left party cadres must be ready to fight for people’s issues. He criticized the current political climate for dividing people along religious, caste, and regional lines to gain power. He said these actions sideline Constitutional values. Mr. Ramanaidu warned of ‘‘covert attempts’’ to change the Constitution and urged the public to hold the BJP-led NDA government accountable. The meeting was also attended by CPI district secretary S. Nagaraju and senior cadres from all Assembly constituencies in Chittoor district.
