Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday thanked the people of Thiruvananthapuram for the BJP-led NDA's historic win in local body elections. The NDA won power in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation, ending more than 40 years of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule. The election results were declared on December 13, 2025. The NDA secured 50 wards out of 101, while the LDF won 29 wards. Mr. Modi called this victory a "watershed moment in Kerala’s politics." He said the people are sure that only the BJP can meet the state's development needs. He posted on X, "The mandate the BJP-NDA got in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is a watershed moment in Kerala’s politics. The people are certain that the development aspirations of the state can only be addressed by our Party." The BJP had struggled in Kerala local elections before, winning just a few wards until a decade ago. Though the party pushed hard in recent elections, its progress was slow. Now, PM Modi said the party will focus on the city's growth and improve the 'Ease of Living' for residents.
