On December 12, 2025, the councillors of Kozhikode Corporation's 2020–25 term had an emotional farewell at the Corporation office. The event included mementos, a group photo, and high tea. They chose this day wisely, falling between polling and counting days for local body elections. The current council stays in power until about December 20, when the new council takes charge. Mayor Beena Philip spoke warmly about the council's achievements over five years. She said, "There had been no complaints about any of the 75 councillors of the Corporation, a rarity." She expressed her respect and thanked all councillors for their support, regardless of political differences. She also hoped the next council would do even better. Councillors from both sides shared their thoughts. Ruling front members P. Diwakaran and S. Jayasree talked about what they learned and accomplished. Opposition councillors S.K. Aboobakker and K.C. Shobhita expressed regret about projects like the Kidson Corner parking plaza, blaming ruling council delays. Earlier in the day, the council passed the annual financial statement for 2024–25. They also approved resignations of two councillors, Alphonsa Mathew and K. Ramlath. Both had quit weeks earlier to run in elections under other parties. Ms. Mathew left Congress to join Aam Aadmi Party, and Ms. Ramlath left IUML to join Rashtriya Janata Dal.
