A birthday stunt turned dangerous when a young man in Dubai set a public road on fire using a flammable substance to gain online attention. Dubai Police quickly intervened and arrested him. The man faces serious legal action, including a Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic black points, and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days. Brigadier Juma Salim bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, called the act "serious and unacceptable behaviour." He said it endangered drivers, pedestrians, and the community. "Setting fire on a public road exposes everyone nearby to the risk of a blaze, disrupts traffic flow, confuses road users, and damages infrastructure as well as the environment," he stated. The incident was recorded and shared widely on social media. The young man wanted more followers and popularity online. Authorities stressed that seeking digital fame does not justify risking lives. Dubai Police tracked the videos, identified the man and his vehicle, and summoned him for legal proceedings. Brigadier bin Suwaidan urged parents to monitor their children’s behaviour and warned youths against copying risky online content. "The pursuit of likes and views does not justify actions that endanger lives or lead to legal consequences," he said. He also encouraged sharing positive and responsible content that reflects UAE’s values. Police will continue strict patrols and use smart monitoring to catch reckless acts. They remind everyone that using public roads for stunts or filming is not acceptable and that safety is everyone's duty. Residents are urged to report dangerous behaviour and set good examples both online and on the streets.
