The Rajya Sabha paid heartfelt tribute to former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan said, "The country has lost a respected Parliamentarian and an able Administrator." Patil served in the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra from 2004 to 2010. He died at his home, 'Devghar', in Latur, Maharashtra, after a brief illness. During the Zero Hour proceedings, Mr. Radhakrishnan expressed sorrow: "I refer, with profound sorrow, to the passing away of Shivraj Patil Ji, a former member of this House." Members observed two minutes of silence to honour him. Born on October 12, 1935, Patil was known as a veteran Congressman. He served as the 10th Speaker of the Lok Sabha and later as Union Minister of Home Affairs. He also held the posts of Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh. The Chairman described him as "a dignified and soft-spoken Statesman, respected for his deep understanding of Parliamentary procedure, his unwavering commitment to democratic values and his calm and measured approach to public life." Family sources said his funeral will be held on Saturday. His contributions to India's governance and Parliament remain noteworthy.
