The Karnataka government on Thursday decided that big-ticket cricket events at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will only be allowed if the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) follows safety rules. These rules come from the John Michael Cunha Commission of Inquiry. The commission was formed after 11 fans died in a stampede outside the stadium on June 4, 2025, during Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) victory celebrations. The cabinet met to discuss allowing large events after KSCA’s appeal. KSCA, led by president B.K. Venkatesh Prasad, recently met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. A senior minister said, “The onus is now on the association to comply with the guidelines. We have not set any deadline. It is up to them.” The commission report highlighted safety concerns, especially stadium design. The decision raises questions about whether IPL matches will be held at Bengaluru's home ground next season.
