PM Modi Chairs Meeting to Finalize Central Information Commission Appointments Amid Rahul Gandhi's Dissent
December 10, 2025
On December 10, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-profile meeting to finalize important appointments in the Central Information Commission (CIC). The meeting included Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The panel worked for over 90 minutes to choose the next Chief Information Commissioner and eight other Information Commissioners. They also discussed filling vacant Vigilance Commissioner posts in the Central Vigilance Commission.
There was no official statement on the talks, but Rahul Gandhi reportedly submitted a dissent note against certain government-backed candidates.
This meeting came during the Lok Sabha debate on electoral reforms. Rahul Gandhi had criticized the appointment process for the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners, saying, “I sit in that room. It is a so-called democratic decision. On one side, there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. On the other side, the Leader of the Opposition. I have no voice in that room. What they decide is what happens.”
The meeting's outcome remains awaited as the government moves forward with these crucial appointments.
