Trump Vows to Intervene as Fighting Resumes on Thailand-Cambodia Border
December 10, 2025
US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will make a phone call to address the renewed fighting at the Thailand-Cambodia border. These clashes have reignited less than two months after a ceasefire he helped arrange collapsed. Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump said, “in ten months I ended eight wars,” highlighting his peacemaking efforts worldwide, including conflicts involving Kosovo and Serbia, Pakistan and India, and Israel and Iran. He added about the new fighting, “I hate to say this one, named Cambodia-Thailand, and it started up today and tomorrow I’ll have to make a phone call.” Both Thailand and Cambodia accuse each other of breaking the US-backed ceasefire signed six weeks ago in Trump’s presence. Since the conflict reignited, over 500,000 people have fled their homes for safety in both countries. The violence escalated after Thailand stopped de-escalation measures in November following claims that Cambodia laid a new landmine that injured a Thai soldier, which Cambodia denies. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Tuesday that Cambodia has not contacted Thailand for talks and stated, “We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. The government will support all kinds of military operations as planned earlier.” Cambodia’s senate president and ex-Prime Minister Hun Sen posted on social media that Cambodia sought peace but began firing back to defend its territory. As of Tuesday night, Cambodia reported 9 civilian deaths and 20 serious injuries, while Thailand's officials confirmed 4 soldiers killed and 68 injured since Monday.
