Thailand Hits Cambodian Military Bases After Rocket Threats Amid Ceasefire Breach
December 9, 2025
Thailand launched airstrikes on Cambodian military facilities on Monday. The targets housed long-range artillery capable of firing rockets, including Chinese-made ones, that could hit civilian areas. A Thai military official said surveillance showed the threat. The two neighbors are in their worst fighting since a clash in July. Both sides blame each other for breaking the ceasefire deal arranged by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Premier Anwar Ibrahim. Thailand’s Defence Ministry spokesman, Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, said their military believed Cambodia could use Soviet-designed BM-21 and Chinese-made PHL-03 rockets to fire on a provincial airport and a state hospital. Cambodia’s Defence Ministry did not immediately respond to detailed questions. The ceasefire called for heavy weapons withdrawal beginning with rocket systems. Thailand stopped the ceasefire plan after a landmine exploded and maimed a Thai soldier, escalating tensions further.
